Our community empowerment and social change initiatives models Neighborhood College Concept in the United States but customized in Puntland. “Neighborhood College Concept” is a leadership and civic development program designed to help individuals learn more about local government, democratic processes, rights and responsibilities, and encourage them to participate in democracy building. The project will create sustainable forums in which parliamentarians, state and local officials and citizens can engage one another to explain their various roles and needs. SFS has identified government and civil society partners to implement the “neighborhood college” program and will facilitate this initial series of meetings in Garowe, Bosaso and Galkayo.
