Somali Family Services (SFS) in partnership with UNICEF trained 6 Community Education Committees (CECs) consisting of 44 members from six targeted schools at Kismayo University in Kismayo, Jubbaland from 28^th February – 5^th March.

The training aimed to enhance the skills of the CECs to enable them effectively participate in school management, help them understand their roles and responsibilities, how and ways to mobilize resources for the schools, ways to increase enrolment of out of school children and how and ways to involve the community in supporting and sustaining the schools.

The Community Education Committees consisted of 44 members (17 female, 27 male) from Gananep Primary School, Rugta primary School, Salihudin Primary School, Fanole Primary School, Mohamed Jama Primary School and Khalid Bin Walid.

The Community Education Committees play a vital role in the schools. Their roles include resource mobilization, school supervision and management, conflict resolution in school and to promote school enrollment through raising the awareness of the community about the importance of education.

The training thus equipped them with the skills and knowledge to carry out their duties effectively and promote relationship between the schools and the community.

Capacity building of community education committees is one of the components of Rapid Response Project (CERF). The overall objective of the rapid response project is to ensure 2,000 out-of-school children from vulnerable communities are enabled to get free access to learning opportunity in the six targeted formal primary schools in Kismayo.
