Our Strategies

At Somali Family Services (SFS), our strategies are rooted in a commitment to improving the quality of life for Somali communities through inclusive, innovative, and impactful initiatives. Guided by our mission and vision, we aim to foster sustainable development, strengthen democratic governance, and build resilient communities across Somalia and beyond.

Our strategic plan for 2014–2018 serves as a roadmap for achieving our goals. It outlines clear objectives, actionable strategies, and measurable activities to ensure the effective delivery of our programs. This plan is a key tool for:

Monitoring and evaluating our progress.
Supporting fundraising efforts for our long-term sustainability.
Enhancing accountability and resource utilization.

Guiding Principles

Through a participatory approach, we’ve engaged our stakeholders in shaping a strategic vision that addresses the most pressing challenges faced by Somali communities. Our work is guided by three key pillars, each with its own focused strategic plan:

Leadership and Policy Institute Strategic Plan

We believe that effective governance and leadership are the cornerstones of sustainable development. The Leadership and Policy Institute focuses on:

1.Capacity Building: Training government officials, civil society leaders, and local stakeholders in leadership, policy development, and governance.

2. Policy Advocacy: Promoting inclusive and participatory governance models that empower marginalized communities, including women, youth, and nomadic populations.

3. Transparency and Accountability: Enhancing public sector transparency and fostering a culture of mutual accountability between communities and their government.

Media and Peacebuilding Institute Strategic Plan

SFS recognizes the transformative power of independent media in promoting peace and social cohesion. The Media and Peacebuilding Institute works to:

1. Strengthen Independent Media: Managing platforms like Radio Sahan to amplify the voices of marginalized groups and foster balanced reporting on governance and human rights.

2. Conflict Resolution: Facilitating community dialogue forums to address grievances, counter violent extremism, and build trust among communities.

3. Promote Civic Engagement: Empowering citizens through media programs to participate in democratic processes, advocate for their rights, and engage with local leadership.

Education and Skill Development Institute Strategic Plan

Empowering individuals through education and skills training is central to SFS’s mission. The Education and Skill Development Institute focuses on:

1. Access to Quality Education: Partnering with schools and organizations to improve access to education, especially for marginalized groups like women and displaced populations.

2. Vocational Training: Offering skill development programs to equip youth and adults with employable skills, contributing to economic growth and poverty reduction.

3. Youth Empowerment: Creating opportunities for young people to develop their leadership potential, engage in civic activities, and contribute to Somalia’s development.

Strategic Plan Implementation

The implementation of our strategic plan relies on collaboration with a diverse range of partners, including government institutions, international organizations, and local communities. Through regular monitoring and evaluation, we ensure that our resources are effectively utilized to achieve planned results.

Our strategies are designed to be adaptable and responsive to the dynamic needs of Somali communities. By leveraging local expertise and fostering partnerships, we strive to create a lasting impact and contribute to a sustainable, peaceful future.
