Strategic Pillar

Child Protection & Safeguarding

SFS delivers comprehensive child protection services focused on prevention, response, and system strengthening. Programmes include case management, family tracing and reunification, and psychosocial support to ensure the safety and well-being of vulnerable children. Safe spaces and community-based protection structures are established to promote resilience and early risk detection.

SFS also addresses gender-based violence, child labor, and early marriage through community engagement and survivor-centered support. Institutional safeguarding and PSEA systems are strengthened to ensure accountability, ethical conduct, and protection across all programmes. Overall, the approach prioritizes child safety, dignity, and long-term protection within families and communities.

Priority Areas:

Case Management & Referral Systems

We provide structured case management services for children at risk of abuse, neglect, exploitation, or separation. Each case is assessed individually, and tailored support plans are developed in line with best-interest principles. We coordinate closely with health, legal, and social service providers to ensure safe and timely referrals. Confidentiality, dignity, and child safety guide every step of our response.

Prevention and Response to Gender-Based Violence (GBV)

We implement community-based prevention initiatives that challenge harmful norms and promote gender equality. Survivors receive confidential, survivor-centered support, including psychosocial care and referrals to medical and legal services. We work to reduce stigma and strengthen reporting mechanisms. Our approach builds safer environments for women and girls.

Child-Friendly Spaces (CFS)

We establish safe, structured spaces where children can learn, play, and recover from distress. These spaces provide stability and routine during emergencies and displacement. Activities are designed to strengthen emotional well-being, social skills, and resilience. Child safety standards are strictly upheld.

Family Tracing and Reunification

We support the identification and reunification of separated and unaccompanied children with their families. Our teams work with community networks and relevant authorities to verify cases and ensure safe reunification. Each reunification is carefully assessed to protect the child’s long-term well-being. Post-reunification follow-up ensures sustained protection.

Prevention of Child Labor & Early Marriage

We address the underlying drivers of child labor and early marriage through awareness, education access, and household support interventions. Engagement with parents and community leaders promotes positive social norms. We advocate for the protection of children’s rights and access to education. Prevention is rooted in strengthening family and community resilience.

Community-Based Child Protection Committees

We strengthen community-led protection mechanisms to identify risks and respond early. Committee members are trained on child rights, safeguarding standards, and referral pathways. These structures enhance local ownership and accountability. Strong community systems are essential for sustainable protection.

Psychosocial Support (PSS)

We provide age-appropriate psychosocial support to children affected by conflict, displacement, and trauma. Services include group sessions, individual support, and caregiver engagement. Our approach helps children rebuild coping skills and emotional stability. Mental well-being is treated as a core element of protection and recovery.

Safeguarding Systems Strengthening for Institutions

We support schools, community organizations, and partners to establish and implement clear safeguarding policies. Staff and volunteers are trained on prevention, reporting procedures, and ethical conduct. We promote safe recruitment and accountability mechanisms. Institutional safeguarding is central to protecting children from harm.

Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA)

We uphold a zero-tolerance approach to sexual exploitation and abuse across all programs. Clear, accessible reporting channels are established and communicated to communities. Staff and partners receive regular training on PSEA standards and responsibilities. Accountability and survivor-centered response mechanisms are integral to our work.
