DHOBLEY, JUBALAND — 7–11 September 2026
Somali Family Services (SFS) successfully conducted a five-day workshop in Dhobley District, Jubaland, focused on business development and tax awareness. The activity was implemented as part of the Good Governance Program (DLGLA), SSF III – Year 4, with the aim of strengthening understanding of local taxation, improving engagement between taxpayers and local authorities, and promoting transparent local revenue management.
A total of 75 participants took part in the workshop, including 57 men and 18 women. The participants also included 21 youth, 7 internally displaced persons (IDPs), and 7 persons with disabilities (PWDs), ensuring representation from different groups within the community.
The sessions focused on key areas including local taxation, taxpayers’ rights and responsibilities, tax compliance, and transparency in revenue administration. Participants were provided with an opportunity to better understand the role of taxation in supporting local governance and community development, as well as the responsibilities of both taxpayers and local authorities in effective revenue management.
As part of the activity, SFS also facilitated a consultation meeting between the Dhobley District Administration and the local business community. The meeting provided a platform for business owners and district authorities to openly discuss challenges related to tax collection, identify areas for improved cooperation, and explore ways to strengthen local revenue mobilization and management.
The workshop and consultation meeting contributed to creating greater dialogue between the district administration, business community, and local residents, while encouraging transparency, cooperation, and improved understanding of local tax systems.
Through initiatives such as this, Somali Family Services (SFS) remains committed to supporting good governance, empowering communities, strengthening local institutions, and promoting sustainable local development across Somalia.
