Protection & Social Protection

Everyone deserves protection from harm and supported to live with dignity

Key Activities

SFS protects children and vulnerable people. We prevent and respond to violence and abuse. We strengthen safeguarding and community protection systems. We also help vulnerable families access social assistance and essential services. Our goal is safety and dignity for all.

Our approach prevents and responds to protection risks. We support early identification and safe referral. We promote safeguarding and PSEA awareness. We strengthen community and institutional capacity. We also improve access to social assistance and essential services. Children’s rights, participation and best interests remain central to our work.

Education & Learning for All

Every child and youth deserves access to quality education.

SFS works to ensure that children, young people and adults—particularly those affected by poverty, displacement and crisis—have access to safe, inclusive and quality learning opportunities. We support formal and alternative education, accelerated learning, teacher development, school infrastructure and WASH, literacy and skills development, while promoting girls’ education and equitable access for marginalized learners.

Our approach strengthens schools, teachers and communities while helping learners build the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to thrive.

Inclusive Governance & Social Accountability

Empowered citizens, accountable institutions and better public services

SFS strengthens inclusive, accountable and responsive governance by connecting citizens with local authorities and public institutions. We create platforms for women, youth and marginalized communities to participate in decision-making, influence local priorities and hold institutions accountable for equitable and effective service delivery.

Our approach combines civic education, community scorecards and social accountability tools, public dialogue, participatory planning and budgeting, institutional capacity strengthening, and support for women’s and youth leadership.

Livelihoods & Household Resilience

Strengthening livelihoods, economic opportunity and household resilience

SFS supports vulnerable households and communities to build sustainable livelihoods, increase incomes and better withstand economic, climate and conflict-related shocks. We combine immediate livelihood support with longer-term pathways to economic recovery and self-reliance.

Our approach includes cash and livelihood assistance, vocational and entrepreneurship skills, micro-enterprise support, savings and community-based financial mechanisms, agricultural and livestock support, and market-oriented opportunities for women, youth and vulnerable households.

Peacebuilding & Social Cohesion

Building bridges, strengthening trust and supporting peaceful communities

SFS works with communities, local institutions, women and youth to prevent conflict, strengthen social cohesion and promote peaceful coexistence. Through dialogue, reconciliation, community-led peacebuilding, arts and media, we help communities address local tensions, rebuild trust and strengthen resilience.

  • Masraxa Dookh Theatre — arts-based peacebuilding
