Somali Family Services (SFS) has implemented multiple education and child-protection programmes across Puntland, Jubaland and other parts of Somalia, expanding access to safe, inclusive and quality learning for children affected by displacement, poverty, conflict and climate-related emergencies.
In Lower Jubba alone, SFS has supported thousands of children through Education in Emergencies interventions. Across its broader portfolio, SFS has supported more than 100,000 children through education and protection initiatives.
Working with UNICEF and other development partners, SFS has enrolled out-of-school children, supported schools and temporary learning spaces, trained and coached teachers, supplied essential learning materials and strengthened community participation in education.
These interventions have included:
- Education in Emergencies and accelerated learning.
- Enrolment and retention of out-of-school children.
- Construction and support of classrooms and temporary learning spaces.
- Teacher training, mentoring and classroom support.
- Provision of teaching and learning materials.
- School water, sanitation and hygiene support.
- Community education committees and parental engagement.
- Child protection, safeguarding and referral services.
- Foundational literacy and numeracy support.
- Education opportunities for displaced, pastoralist and marginalized children.
SFS’s wider institutional impact includes more than 100,000 children supported through education and protection initiatives, contributing to the organization’s overall reach of over 250,000 people across Somalia.
From emergency classrooms in Lower Jubba to community learning initiatives in Puntland, SFS is helping children enter school, remain engaged and build the foundations for a better future.
