SFS works with communities to address the drivers of conflict and violent extremism while strengthening local capacity for peaceful dialogue, reconciliation and collective action. Our approach recognizes that exclusion, unemployment, weak civic participation, displacement and limited trust between communities and institutions can increase young people’s vulnerability to violence and extremist influence.
Building on our Youth at Risk initiatives, CVE and PCVE programming, and peacebuilding experience in Dollow, Luuq and other conflict-affected communities, SFS engages youth, women, community leaders, civil society and local authorities to identify tensions, resolve disputes and promote peaceful alternatives to violence.
Our work includes:
- Community dialogues, mediation and conflict-resolution forums.
- Youth engagement, leadership and positive alternatives to violence.
- Women’s participation in peacebuilding and local decision-making.
- Civic education and awareness on peace, tolerance and social cohesion.
- Community-led prevention of violent extremism.
- Dialogue between communities, authorities and other duty-bearers.
- Radio and community-media programming promoting peace and responsible civic participation.
- Strengthening local peace structures and early identification of emerging tensions.
Through its Inclusive Social Accountability approach, SFS also supports Youth and Women Caucuses to raise community concerns, engage decision-makers and contribute to peaceful and accountable local governance.
