State-Building in Somalia; New Government, Old Challenges
Georgetown University-Washington, DC, on Feb Wednesday , February 20, 2013. A group of 2012 Somali Family Services intern from Georgetown University School of Foreign Services put together a well organized forum that designed to be a discussion and dialogue about current social economical development in Puntland and Somalia. Eric Robinson, Senior Program Office-African on National Endowment for Democracy, Steven Hansch, Proffessor of Georgetown University, Rob Satrom, Somalia Desk U.S. State Department, Bureau of African Affairs and Abdurashid Ali, SFS Executive Director highlighted how will the federal government consolidate its authority beyond Mogadishu? To what extent will regions like Puntland and Somaliland, with their own political transitions, choose to participate in the new system? What are the implications for development efforts across the country, and how can the international community assist in state-building?
